Set of Four Sterling Silver Georgian Revival Candlesticks
Set of four silver Georgian revival candlesticks, manufactured by Thomas Bradbury Sheffield in 1896. In the form of Corinthian columns, fitted with detachable sconces, over a column decorated with repoussé acorn trails and foliage, on a square spreading base surmounted with urns and acanthus with a gadrooned border. Stamped “West and Son College Green Dublin”.
Jeweller West and Son opened in Dublin in 1720 and was awarded a royal warrant as watchmakers to Queen Victoria & the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. Queen Victoria had in her jewellery collection 2 copies of the Tara Brooch crafted by West & Son. The firm once claimed to be the oldest jewellers in Europe. The business closed in 2010.
